Dr. Sarah Byrd Skinner was born and raised in Savannah. She attended Mercer University in Macon, where she earned her undergraduate degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. She stayed at Mercer for medical school, graduating in 2020 as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society and serving as class president.
She completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the high-volume University of Tennessee program in Memphis. There, she received comprehensive training in high-risk obstetrics, complex gynecologic surgery, and robotic/minimally invasive techniques. During residency, she was honored with the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists Honorary Resident Member Award, the Outstanding Minimally Invasive Surgery Resident Award, and the Outstanding Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery Resident Award. She was also elected by her peers to serve as chief resident in her final year.
After residency, Dr. Skinner worked as an ObGyn hospitalist at Texas Health Dallas while her husband completed his orthopedic fellowship. In this role, she cared for medically complex obstetric and gynecologic patients in a hospital setting.
Dr. Skinner’s interest in women’s healthcare began early, inspired by her grandfather, Dr. John Dekle, a retired ObGyn in Savannah. Her passion for the field comes from her desire to serve the community and her commitment to advancing patient care and education.
In her free time, she enjoys boating, gardening, and spending time with her family. Dr. Skinner is thrilled to be back home in Savannah after several years away.
